Toilet Tank Decor Ideas

0

As I wrap up my girls’ bathroom remodel, I’m down to all of the final little details from hand towels to toothbrush holders and… what to put on and above the toilet tank. It can be a tricky spot to figure out! So keeping both style and practicality in mind, today I’m sharing toilet tank decor ideas from my current and previous bathroom remodels. Let’s get to it… (post includes commissionable links; for more information, see my full disclosure statement {here})

Top Your Tank With a Tray

I use decorative trays all over our home, as they’re perfect for corralling items together to create a cohesive look. In bathrooms, I’ve used trays between two sinks on double vanities and also on toilet tanks. For example, I have {this small woven bathroom tray} as part of the toilet tank decor in our powder room:

and I used black marble tray similar to {this one} in the guest bathroom of our previous home:

Store Extra Rolls of TP

Toilet tanks can be the perfect spot for storing extra toilet paper rolls, especially in guest bathrooms and powder rooms where you want it to be easy for guests to find an extra roll. You can store multiple rolls of TP in a basket like {this woven tank basket} or {this divided version} that’s sized to hold multiple toilet paper rolls:

Another option is to unobtrusively store a single toilet paper roll in a cover such as {this woven toilet paper roll cover}:

You could also add a single uncovered roll of toilet paper to a tank tray or basket. If you want to fancy it up a bit, here’s a way to add a fun touch of style… Fold the end of your TP roll into a triangle and add a “seal” with your faucet. Simply turn the water on and back off and then press the end of the TP roll up against the head of your faucet:

The wet faucet head will seal the end of the toilet paper roll down, leaving a circular “embossed” pattern:

Add a Lidded Box or Basket

The addition of a lidded box or basket to the top your toilet tank such as {this one} offers a practical toilet tank decor solution for increasing your storage space:

Use it to keep toilet paper, flushable wipes, menstrual products, hand towels, and other bathroom essentials within easy reach:

It’s an especially good solution if you have limited storage space in your bathroom, such as in a powder room with a pedestal sink.

Display Seasonal Decor

The top of the toilet tank can be a fun spot to display seasonal decor, especially in a powder room. Use small pumpkins during the fall, a bouquet of flowers during the spring, or lit ceramic houses during the holidays:

Choose Over-the-Toilet Storage Instead

Some toilets have super small or sloped tanks that don’t work well for adding toilet tank decor. In other cases, you simply need more storage space than is available on the top of your toilet tank. That’s when you might want to consider over-the-toilet storage solutions instead. A few options include wall-mounted shelving like this one I added during my bathroom remodel before and after,

or freestanding pieces like {this cane over the toilet storage piece}:
